Basics of Online Marketing

morenicheAs an online marketer, you must know the two important things you need to know about affiliate marketing. I assume that you are one of those people who want to make a lot of money without ever having to put on a suit and tie and going to the office. And let’s not deny that we all dreaming of financial independence and be a successful online marketer. The first thing you need to keep in mind at all times about affiliate marketing is: content rules. You must know how to make your own content and how to come up with quality stuff. Getting surfers to look at your website is not that hard. Making them read more than a couple of lines is a bit harder.

The second most important thing is to gain links that point to your site, which will bounce you up in search engine ratings. Make sure the links are always from web pages that focus on the same topic as the articles they point to, otherwise you are going to lose points with the search engines and that should be avoided at all costs.

Getting It Started:

Pick a niche market, identify some topics and start writing. Get about 10 articles up on your website, get links for every one of them and then keep an eye out and see if people like them or not. Every morning re-read one of the articles and see if your writing style is really crystal clear and if the ideas stand out from the text and are easy to grasp by anyone.

After weeks of doing this re-read your first articles once more. I am perfectly sure that you will be surprised of how poorly written they seem. Feel free to re-write them, or to write new ones that focus on the same topics and solutions, but with a different approach and wording. Don’t strive to be 100% original every time because this is impossible.

In a short while you will notice that your site is getting a lot of attention because of the friendly content. Keep everything simple and make sure your pages can be accessed easily by surfers who don’t land on your main page. Having a website that doesn’t look slick, but has loads of good content tells people that you are a real person and that you aren’t trying to pull anything.

morenicheMarketing campaigns, flashing banners and slick ads are nice, but you don’t need them. Just write articles and get links. Then write more articles and get more links. Repeat this until your website becomes a mandatory stop for people who want to be well-informed on the topic you’ve chosen. The links and surfer clicks will give you good ratings and the original content will make you unique.

Write good articles, put in plenty of keywords (don’t use them blatantly), make sure the links to the merchant website stand out and get other websites to link to you. That’s all you need to know to make a lot of money on the internet.

So there you have it, the big list of tasks that you need to do in order to become a successful affiliate marketer. Sounds too simple? Well, it sort of is simple, but not as simple as you’d expect. What you need to do is to write good articles that can really answer the questions your readers have in mind. This means finding a topic, becoming thoroughly acquainted with it and analyzing possible solutions.

What is affiliate marketing?

make money by bloggingAffiliate marketing has quickly become one of the most popular and the most effective ways to advertise on the Internet. The premise of affiliate marketing is very simple. A company, let’s say eBay, goes to another web site and asks them to place a banner or link to eBay on their site. Every time a user clicks on that eBay banner and visits the site, the owner of the original site gets a commission. It’s as simple as that.

The history of affiliate marketing goes back to approximately 1994 with the trailblazing music website www.CDNow.com. They were, as far as most people know, the first site to pay other sites for directing Internet traffic to them. Internet giant Amazon.com soon caught on and became the site most associated with affiliate marketing. Today, the practice of affiliate marketing is used by essentially every major web site in the world.

Why affiliate marketing?

One of the reasons that affiliate marketing has proven to be so popular is that it is completely based on performance. In most cases, the company doing the advertising doesn’t pay a single penny to the site that is carrying their ad unless there is evidence that Internet traffic has been driven to the advertising site. There are, however, other ways of doing affiliate marketing.

Some advertising sites have paid the site hosting their link based not on the number of times an original IP visits through the link, but on the number of times the banner ad was “seen.” This method presents a whole host of problems since things like hit counts can be forged and there is no way to insure that just because someone visited a web page that had your logo on it that they even saw it or if they did, that they even knew what it was.

Other methods of affiliate marketing include paying only when a link is followed AND some kind of transaction takes place. This can be tough on the site hosting the link because the attention span of the average Internet user isn’t long enough in most cases to follow a link and then either complete a purchase, or fill out a form of some kind. The conventional method simply pays a host a commission for every time an original IP is directed to their site.

In a matter of only a few years, affiliate marketing has become one of the most cost effective ways to drive traffic to a site. Since, in most cases, both the advertiser and the host profit from the set up, there is no reason to believe that affiliate marketing won’t be a dominant advertising method well into the future.

3 Reasons Why Prospects Don't Buy

marketingNearly everyday, I get e-mails from marketers asking me why visitors keep exiting their websites without purchasing anything. Now assuming you have "all of your ducks in a row," including targeting the right audience and well-written, compelling sales copy, following are the 3 most common reasons why prospects aren't buying what you're selling.

1. Prospects Don't Find Your Product Appealing: It may seem like a harsh reality to you, but you may have a product that nobody wants. While you may think that what you're selling is the greatest thing since sliced bread, it's what your prospects think that ultimately matters.

You can have the greatest sales letter ever written and the best promotion, but those things just don't matter if nobody wants what you're selling.

Now there can be a variety of reasons for this. For example: Timing. Some ideas are way ahead of their time, and people just aren't ready for them.

Another reason may be, your product is a dud. Hey, it happens to the best of us. Despite our best efforts and intentions, sometimes our ideas just aren't as good as we originally thought they were. Where do you think that age old saying came from?..."It seemed like a good idea at a the time."

The key is being smart enough to recognize when you're beating a dead horse, and cut your losses.

Now that doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up on your product ideas altogether - just for the time being. Remember what I said earlier about timing? Sometimes, if you simply shelve your product for a few months or years and then reintroduce it at a later date, the buying public may be much more receptive to your idea. This occurs much more often than you realize.

2. Prospects Can't Afford What You're Selling: Nowadays people are literally being bombarded with advertisements from all directions...tv, radio, direct mail, Internet, newspapers, etc., etc., etc.

Unfortunately, there are only so many dollars to go around. Prospects may very well want what you're selling, but may be unable to afford it. Especially if you're selling a product for $100 or more. If you're experiencing market resistance toward your product, try lowering your price or offering some time of payment arrangement or installment plan. This method has jump-started many advertising campaigns.

3. Prospects Don't Believe Your Message: Your prospects will never tell you this, but the reason they aren't buying your product might be because they don't believe your selling message.

As a nation we've become increasingly skeptical of advertisements of all types. Why? Because too often, the products being advertised simply don't live up to the hype and excitement they're being promoted with.

So how can you solve this dilemma? Simple. Tone down the hype and admit your products faults, flaws or shortcomings. For example:

"Unfortunately, our new hair growth formula is not a miracle drug and thus will not work for everyone. While lab tests results prove that it will work for the majority of users, there is a slight chance, it may not grow hair in your particular case. However, if you try our new hair growth formula and are unsatisfied for any reason, we will cheerfully refund your money...no questions asked!"

Do you see how admitting your product is not a miracle drug make your claims seem more much believable and palatable? Try using this method in your next ad campaign.

In closing, while you may not hit a home run each time you go to bat, if you consistently make your offers as credible as possible, the numbers will take care of themselves!

Beginner? Focus Your Efforts

By Rob Wood

One mistake that new Affiliate marketers often make is to go out a join a lot of Merchant programs and try to promote them all. This is usually due to being very enthusiastic and wanting to start promoting a lot of Merchants as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this is usually not the best strategy to go with if you are new to Affiliate Marketing. This tutorial will go through a few things that new Affiliates should do to educate themselves about marketing with clixGalore and why it isn't necessarily a good idea to join a lot of Merchant programs.

The first thing that needs to be done for any Merchant program you join is research. If you are not up to speed on Affiliate Marketing in general, then you should certainly consider reading ALL of the articles available here at clixGaloreTutor.com. After you are comfortable with the basics of Affiliate Marketing, you will need to find out about the specific product you want to promote and develop a plan for how you intend to develop it. By concentrating on one Merchant or a group of similar Merchants you will give yourself a better chance at success. This maybe slightly counter-intuitive - after all if you promote 100 merchants, by extension, you should make 100 times as many commissions, right?

Wrong.

Affiliates who specialise in one area or niche of Affiliate marketing, tend to do better - especially if they are in the early stages of developing their Affiliate career. Over time, it will be possible to diversify, but for the early stages it is far better to concentrate on a single merchant, product or niche.

Another mistake that many new Affiliates make is to fill a site or webpage with hundreds of Affiliate links and banners and expect people to click on them. Again, this simply won't work well at all. You are far better advised to develop a website around a single product, Merchant or niche and concentrate on promoting it to people who would be interested in that topic. Provide them with information and Affiliate links that are related to the topic.

Alternatively, if you are promoting Merchants via other methods, you would be well advised to concentrate on a single area. For example, developing an email list interested in a particular niche will be more responsive to offers than a general email list. Always keep the niche in mind.

Even using PPC marketing like Adwords, you will find that concentrating on a niche helps. Knowing a specific product or niche area well will usually improve your results in that area. This is mainly reflected in your choice of successful keywords which you will come to develop and improve as you discover which work and which don't.

Now, in deciding which product or Merchants you should concentrate on promoting when you are relatively new to Affiliate marketing, you should consider a few things first. Perhaps the most important is knowing what to look for in a Merchant program. There is a helpful tutorial on that topic here.

When you have come to terms with that, and have chosen a small niche to begin marketing, you will be in much better stead that many beginning Affiliates. Concentrating on your specific product. Merchant or niche will give you the greatest chance of success by focussing your enthusiasm, efforts and Affiliate education.
